I'm showing at Luv-able + Hug-able in New York this December, and just in case it doesn't snow there, I decided to make some snowflakes to send over. The theme of this year's show is "Medium & Mini", so these unique medium to little snowflakes range in size from approximately 35 cm to about 15 cm. ( More snow! ) There's a lot more photos of the snowflake quintet in my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kitty_vane/sets/72157622381501079/ And if anyone happens to be in New York this Christmas, please do go see the show, there'll be many, many amazing plushie artists exhibiting their work there! :) |

Notes augmented
We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!
Product tweaks and bug kill
- In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
- If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
- The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
- If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
- If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
- Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)
New FCK fixes rich text editor!
- We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
- When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
- RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
- An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
- The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers
LiveJournal Cares
We’re pleased to introduce you to lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.
Papered in postcards
A couple of weeks ago, we asked you to send in postcards to surround us with LiveJournal community. Thanks for coming through! We've received postcards all the way from Germany, Finland, and Canada and from all over the US, including Texas, Florida, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Indiana, Hawaii, and Oklahoma just to name just a handful. We're thrilled with our improved decor.

Please keep the love coming for one more week by writing to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. Be sure to include your username, since we'll be drawing the names of ten random contributors next Thursday to win paid account credits!

Brock's brother got a new puppy and he came to visit! I think Wesley fell in love.Wes brought home his report card yesterday! He did extremely well. We're so proud of him! We've been slowly making process getting our apartment set up just the way we want it. I'm a bit frustrated because we seem to be having problems with our closet again. I'm not sure if I mentioned it here, but the shelf and bar were practically falling off the wall, so I couldn't really unpack anything to hang up or store in the closet. We finally got it fixed and I eventually hung things up and then last night Brock saw it was coming off the wall again. I haven't even put anything on the shelf yet! And if I do, the whole thing is going to come down. So I suppose I should call them again, though it's such a pain to wait again and not be able to do anything. Wesley has the same type of closet in his room and we haven't had any problems with it at all. I was so excited that Glee was back last night! Brock even watched it with me, though I was annoyed that he finally watched an episode with me (he always refuses to watch tv, besides Thursday night) and it had to be an episode where Sue was actually being semi-nice. And no Emma. And they sang a song from Wicked. Which I personally love, but if Brock is going to finally watch an episode I would prefer Sue to be her normal, evil self and them to be singing a song Brock actually knows and enjoys! Oh well. I also taped ANTM which I am going to watch soon! Snuggling up on the sofa with some coffee and ANTM sounds perfect. And then to work! |

One of my favorite places in the entire world got mentioned in Mothering! Way to go, Baby Cafe!
I bought a digital subscription just so I could read it and share with you guys (click on image for larger size). I’m really so proud of all the work the ladies behind the El Paso Baby Cafe do. They can’t begin to imagine the cascading effect their actions have started. It’s hard to remember now but breastfeeding Jackson was really difficult in the beginning. I had breast surgery 6 years ago and all the experts insisted that breastfeeding would be impossible. Because of the education and support I received immediately after leaving the hospital, I’m proud to say that Jackson is a happy and healthy (except for the little cold he has now!) 100% breastfeed baby.
Would he have been fine on formula? Absolutely. I am by no means knocking anyone’s parenting choices. Breastfeeding my son was a personal challenge that, like labor, hurt terribly at times and made me question just how much I could handle. As it turns out, I can handle quite a bit. I am a more confident and secure mother because I succeeded at something everyone told me just wouldn’t be possible.
Thank you, Libby, for bringing The Baby Cafe to El Paso. I will never forget the time spent in your chairs…laughing, crying, sharing. See you tomorrow!

( Read more... ) Thissss is my new doll pattern. It needs some tweaking, still, so I'll be selling this lady at a lower price than she'd go for normally. (She's not listed yet, but she will be in the next few hours.) The pattern is quite a bit more painstaking than the simpler one, but I love the results. I'm not at ALL happy with how her mouth turned out (not the best at embroidery, yet, but I'm workin' on it), but I love her hair, I love the new pattern (though it needs a bit of tweaking), and I'm really proud of her dress and... shoe... I have to make her a second one. xD Speaking of doll dresses... anyone know how to keep the seams from being all crazy chunky? =/ I usually knit their dresses, so sewing them is a little new to me. Guess who went to the store and ended up buying a bunch of Halloween junk just because it was 90% off?
